I saw the recent thread on the subject of beta sunroofs and it prompted me to investigate the problem I have with mine.

This is in a 1981 2000 coupe. The problem is that I seem to be totally unable to reassemble the sunroof such that the rear edge
closes properly. It seems that there is something which prevents the rear of the sunroof moving up even if you push upwards from inside.

If you unscrew the rear sliding supports and push up then it fits into the cutout.

So the questions are :-

(1) Is there more than one type of sunroof so that I could have mixed up the bits?

(2) Does anyone know of a diagram which shows how it goes together?

(3) Failing a diagram can anyone describe the correct assembly.

I know it sounds bizarre and it should be obvious how to do the job but I've been fighting with this for some years now and so far it has won every round.

I have a parts book & can send you a scan of the diagram it may help, nothing obvious stopping the roof rising you usually can push them up even if the cams don't work.
Let me know your email address - it will be a big file 21mb at first scan I will convert to a .jpg should be smaller.

Thanks very much for the offer of a diagram. In fact Alan Cooper has sent me a scan of the diagram and as a result I think I can see what the problem is.

The first thing is that the springs which control the position of the cams when the sunroof is out of the car are different to those shown. Mine have a rather square shape rather than the 'P' shape.
There is also a small loop which I took to be a locating loop and which I had pressed onto the pivot pin retaining metal for the side moving rods. This has the effect that the cam points up at about 45 deg rather than down.

So when it is all bolted into place the rounded end of the cam is not lying in the channel and when you move the handle it has no effect.
Clearly I need to rearrange things so that it points down and, who knows, then it may work as expected. I think I have the correct springs although finding them may be a challenge.

The fundamental problem I seem to have had is a failure of understanding of the thing works but after looking at the diagram the mental lightbulb flashed and it now seems obvious.

Thanks to all who helped. After this the wind noise will be reduced and the stereo may be audible.
