Beta Spider Splutter

Unread post by Thane »

Hi there.

I am the proud owner of one of only a few Beta Spider 2000's in South Africa. I am slowly replacing and repairing some superficial neglect and have been reasonably successful with spares etc. and have found a true Lancia nut to assist with the more tricky aspects. She goes like a bomb 99% of the time, but every once in a while (usually when cornering hard) symptoms of fuel starvation/misfire set in. I can't determine exactly which because there is no total fuel starvation ever - but it feels like a fuel/carb related problem because it is influenced by accelerator pedal position. I can sometimes correct the problem with a steering waggle or two (almost as if something gets stuck and is then jogged loose again), but if not, I have to re-start the motor and then its fine again for a while (minute/hour/day/week/month).

Any ideas?

Hello!

I can't help, but I have similar problem with my 2.0 IE. Mainly in corners (mainly left) the engine stops for a second, but just for a second, I don't have to restart it. I also can't determine wheter its fuel or ignition problem.
But if its fuel starvation problem then its after the carb or the injector since you have carb and I have injector and we have the same problem. Or these two different problems we have.

If your car is a carbureted model, the conventional suspect is the float. It may not be allowing the float bowl to fill sufficiently and the inadequate contents of the bowl is sloshing away from the pickup in hard turns.
