Hi all,

Just been trying to remove the door card on the driver's side to make some adjustments to the window as rises too high when fully closed. How the devil to I remove the window winder?

I was not trying to remove my winder-handle last year when the handle fell of in my hand. A very small U shaped clip had become too thin to hold the handle on. To remove it I can only imagine it being a 2 person job.
1 person with a small needle-nose pliers spulling the clip from the top of the U & the other person pushing on one side of the clip with a small screwdriver.

I have never tried.

Still, I don't understand how a window that is encased in a frame can rise too-high. When it has reached the top it stops going up...or not ?

Thanks for the reply, sounds tricky! The window is not in a frame, unless you mean the sort of stop at the front where the glass has a cut-out.

What I think has happened is that over the years is that this stop has worn down so that the window winds up a bit too far, this in turn forces the window out slightly and is a possible cause of the corrosion at the top outer corner of the door (I have shown this in a previous post).

Push the chrome surround back and fish thwe clip with a screwdriver with a bent end. To replace simply fit the clip onto the handle push on and then push clip home. Shimples as some merecat would say if only the spring clip didnt fire off into the garage somewhere to be lost for ever....

Thanks, had a go and got it out after a few goes. I used a tack lifter, which was just right for the job. Bit of a waste of time as it goes, as I couldn't find a way of adjusting how far up the window goes. At least I got to check the mechanism though.

Speaking of window winders on Series 1 doors... my coupe came with all the old door trim in a box and the chrome circular trim surround behind the winder lose in the box. How does one fit this chrome ring to the door liner? I had new ones made and did not notice how it fits the old trim. Is it a press fit, glued or held on from behind?
