Does anyone know what material the valve seats are made of? This is all part of a discussion regarding the the use of Lead Replacement Petrol, vs unleaded fuels.
What does evryone feel about using unleaded fuel in a standard fulvia engine?
Has anyone ever come accross a sticky substance which builds up in the compression chamber which ultimately ends up fowling the spark plugs?

Lancia valve seats are good enough for unleaded. Probably since the Lambda but certainly the valve seats of the Fulvia. I have seen quite a few engine failures resulting from the use of additives. None as a result of using just unleaded without additives.
The cover the legal angle: this is my personal experience. Results may vary depending on country, climate, way of driving etc etc etc. And the quantity of engines I have seen is nowhere near the total of Fulvia engines ever produced.
Ask Claire to post a picture of the valves she took from her engine.
Also the original valves are good enough for unleaded. Aftermarket valves vary wildly in quality. Nobody can tell which ones are good and which ones aren't. Often valves are delivered unpacked so the brand cannot even be established. After having had to take a few heads off again because of burned valves I decided to have austenitic valves made by a good manufacturer. Since the minimum order quantity is a 100 pieces per type, I also offer them for sale on this site.
