THIS POST WILL REQUIRE YOU TO, IF YOU WISH TO, CROSS-POLLENIZE YOUR WAY OVER TO
lanciagammaforum.com / events & meetings - 20 Dec in Norfolk (UK)
where Gamma/Fulvia Bart NL (not Bart BE, who owns no Gamma) has recently cross-pollenized the lanciagammaforum
with info about his rather amazing recent Fulvia fuel-delivery-system mods; which I certainly look forward to seeing (driving?) - in "real-life" - in nicer-weather than we are now enjoying through much of Central / North Europa .. requiring a trip to NL before [s]"the cows-go-home".[/s] 25 Dec change: "after the Snow Cows Go Home" .
BE has huge Beef-Cows & NL has many Cheese-Cows; I've seen them both - up close
!'d bet these Cows are currently indoors & not out with Lucas, Playing in the Snow. I'll follow the Example of the Cows !

Hi John, just went for a white drive!! All snow, the Fulvia ploughing through the snow dunes in a ferry tale like landscape.
No winter tyres, just fun!!
We do have a white Xmas this year! Merry Xmas and a very good newyear to all of you out there at the stove or in the blizzard
Lucas

driving in salty snow

i drove around in salt today, wet salt I must report; traveling Gammawise, illegally* riding on 205 Pirelli summer tyres, doing fancy maneuvers (help !!!!) while avoiding lesser-cars (tyre size & type unknown) that were unexpectedly driving over to my side of highway, sometimes going slightly sideways (them, not me) or sometimes them not being able to brake to a stop where / when they should have stopped, or them carefully driving 20kph on (probably on summer tyres too) seemingly dry-roads & looking angry when a Gamma cruised on past them.....not sliding...in 5th gear... at 30kph !
* winter tyres in winter is now a law !
on the dry A'bahn I drove not faster than 100kph; everyone else, it seemed, was driving 150 !!! Yikes !!
Gamma performed like a champ on all surfaces. I am now in-hospital where they may add salt via heated-tubes so as to unfreeze my frozen blood; since I - what else- washed the Gamma, over & under, before parking it in a not-freezing warehouse, in order to partially blow water out of cracks & crannies with an air-compressor !
hey look !! my feet are much smaller when blue !! then driving home in knee-deep-salty-slush - by nightfall to be impassible walls of salty ice...in our trusty winter-tyred Y; which is parked in a freezing (open door for air - circulation) parking-garage - of course - unwashed. It will be washed - in a real Car-Wash - as soon as temps allow!!! Barbara will cruxify me if it isn't ! Yikes revisited........
truth is, actually, I am not really in-hospital; as you suspected. I, old soldier that I am I am, wore multi-layers of heavy clothes, rubber boots & rubber gloves. I indoor-hose sprayed warmish-cool-water (well, it was not freezing water anyway) on & under & all over the salt-covered & colored everything on the now gold again Gamma. I put the floor mats in the warehouse office to drip-dry; knowing that I will be the 1st one in the warehouse office on Monday, to mop the floor !!
What a way to spend the 2d C'mas day ?? What Fun !!
as I washed the Gam, neighbors phoned local Asylum to assure that there was a padded-cell - again - reserved for me. Bleepin Cowards, not 1 of them dern Neighbors came out of their warm-houses to help me !!
tomorrow, I may get to do it (driving part) again....however tomorrow in a Delivery Van...if I am lucky ... I can make some last-minute 2010 deliveries of "Johnny's-Jumpin-Jivin-Joy-Juice" !!!)
4 days ago I enjoyed a spin (a enjoyable-drive!!) from St. Leon (Heidelberg Suburb) to Nancy via Strasburg on perfectly dry-roads, in plus 8grad temp, with no salt, with no snow, with no rain, but with pea-soup-fog - me riding sedately along in that fog, in total Gamma cacoon-like safety - in the same Gamma that I drove today.
Average speed 4 days ago was very restricted due to poor visibility; thus achieving fuel consumption of only 7L per 100 km; surely a record for a Gamma. 560km - only 20km of which were slightly-indirect - but very interesting (ha ha) .. paralleling the Autoroute through small dreary farm villages, waving at some pretty girls, me wondering why I wasn't still on the Autoroute after following everyone else exiting the Autoroute at a huge - sign with yellow-blinking lights - indicating 'Touts-Direction'.
Somehow, the next major-village we all arrived in was where I was wanted to be; 'Merry Christmas' I said to no 1 except my smiling self. I......who actually, horrors of horrors.... arrived on-time, as did everyone else meeting me at Remy's Bistro !
for part of the quiet trip back home (same 'Touts-Direction' detour was required, in reverse) I was unexpectedly escorted by a German-Polizei Motor-Cycle-Club Procession.........total Nut Cases they were, having the time of their lives.....all dressed in old-timey Winter Police Leather Uniforms !! I am sure they did not have winter tyres on their air-chilled BMWs !!!
In any case - rest assured; I am not the only Nut-Case driving around this Corner of Europa !!
Happy Trails to 2010; Looking Forward to 2011 !!!!!!!!! signed Johnny as in Gamma....who knows that it is too salty to drive my precious little Fulvia until Sunny-Smile Weather returns, even through I have Fulvia a set of perfectly good Fulvia winter wheels & tyres in the Warehouse !!!
Wonderful Barbara asked me, at the time of Fulvia purchase & planned registration "are you crazy ?; you want to drive the Fulvia on dry days in winter on winter tires ? What dry days ? Wait until Spring; save road-tax & insurance; you will never drive it in winter" She was right !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ermmm, all though I 'ave not winner-tires on my Gamma; I think winner-tires R a good I.D.
I'm lucky to live (bi-choice) in a low-snow area; but driving a few km in any direction, that is to say "up in the hills", it is impassible to motivate anywhere sensa lawful-footwear, should it snow or be generally slippery.
Down here in the Swamplands, as long as no accident/incident occurs, there will be no monetary fine imposed for wearing summer-wear in winner-time; however should something unhappy occur....goodbye insurance coverage, drivers permit, a big-chunk of real-money & perhaps goodbye vehicle...which could become Property of the State.
I know that braking-distance in snow/ice or even on dry/cold roads...increases drastically when rolling on the wrong-rubber; & visa-versa...distance is far shorter with the right shoes. Not to mention handling on ice/snow !
Similar situation with winter-tires in summer ... a very bad idea.
1/2 way terrible-solution, no-good in winter, no-good in summer - "all-year-tires".
No matter, my Gold-Gamma will do as little mileage possible until the Sun Shines on all of us (here) !
May the Sun also Shine on All of You (there) too !

Looking forrward to your kind offer, signed...Gamma as in Fulvia (or versa-visa)
