viaa 'viva-lancia in deutsch' posting, I now know about - www.verelancia.com - who has just done a major (sinful?) body-mod & a lot more on a Fulvia Sport Z.

They mentioned that they fitted "front lights - Delta type, behind plexi-shields".

I'm going to email them about tplexi-shields; since the "gloopeyed" Renault Euro-fitted lights do not, i my opinion, enhance the beauty of the Zagato front end.

Claire (Huib's?), if you refer to the "standard" zagato S1 plexi shields, you must reconsider your taste. Ercole Spada meant the Zag to have plexi lenses, witness some photo's of early prototypes and series, as well as the recessed contour of the chromed messing headlamp surrounds in which the plastic sheet could engage, meant to have a seamless(ish) flow between plexi and body. I read soemwhere the plexi was dropped as a standard fitting because of US regulations. The recessed contour was also dropped on S2 headlamp surrounds. In my view the plexiglass lenses really finish a Zagato S1.

As for Delta headlamps on a Zag, this has been done previously by some guy in Wassenaar (Netherlands) who claims uses it as a daily driver (?), probably the same as the one who butchered a Zag by cutting its rear end (the loveliest part of a S1 Zag). The "coda tronca" is disgraceful, but the Delta headlamps is actually pretty neat.

The 1 & only "Fulvia as in Claire" - a red 6 blue S2 Zagato - actually belongs to Johnny48.

I had no idea verelancia is located in Wassenaar...which just happens to be the city where the "Lancia Gamma 2008 N. Europe Meeting " will take place on 26/27 Jul.

USA FULVIAS (& EVERY OTHER CAR) HAD TO (still have to) HAVE SEAL-BEAM HEADLIGHTS; WHICH - FOR REASONS OF MISDIRECTED / SCATTERED LIGHT BEAM PATTERNS & GUARANTEED PLEXI - COVER INTERNAL FOGGING; WERE / ARE NOT ALLOWED ON STREET LEGAL CARS.
WITNESS THE NON-PLEXI HEADLIGHTS ON USA JAG E-TYPES & OTHER CARS WITH AERODYNAMIC FRONT DESIGNS. THIS WAS A MAJOR REASON THAT "POP-UP" HEADLIGHTS WERE INVENTED !

Every Fulvia Zagato I know of, S1 or S2, needs a pair.

Vere is actually located in Haarlem, which is near Amsterdam, not Wassenaar.

Franke Lancia was until recently located in Wassenaar on the Rijksstraatweg. Early this year they moved back to their old premises in the Hague at the Van Bleiswijkstraat.

There seems some misunderstanding about the wereabouts and origins of the so called coda tronca Zagato. This car is in Wassenaar at the moment awaiting even more spectacular mods. The rear end treatment was designed by the owner who is an architect with a keen eye for car design. He was influenced by the evolution of the Alfa SZ into the TZ. Were the sloping tail was modified into a truncated 'kamm' tail which improved aerodynamics dramatically. It is not to everyones taste but that is the same for every zagato design so in that regard it fits the mould perfectly.
The sheetmetal work was indeed carried out by vere-lancia in Haarlem.
The car has Delta intergrale 8V headlights which required serious cutting of the innerlamp housings. This surely is a one-way job.

Very Interesting.....but somehow I feel it is a "sort-of" crime !
Of course the owner had "some purpose" in mind......but somehow I'm not sure what this could be !
Unless racing in some form is intended, where "every kg lost is speed gained" and where downforce / track- holding is paramount...somehow I am not sure why this project was started.
Unless the "owner" is playing with "arsistic-expression" cards .... which is certainly his perogative, but somehow...........somehow............etc.

The Delta headlight-mod looks "quite similar to" original dual-lamp-USA-setup & are "therefore not a real crime"; however...could the same "effect/style" have been acheived by simply (or not simply) mounting the headlight covers to Euro headlights?

Maybe, if the owner is reachable, he would be the person to enlighten us best !

Headlightcovers for series 1 cars can be made available if enough people want them. If that is the case a mould can be made and a small series production can be set-up. Price should be acceptable as you would like a spare set in case of stonechip damage.
About the owner of the coda tronca. He was thinking about the evolution of the Flavia zagato (which unfortunately was never put in series production) and the fact that Ercole Spada never bothered to make a Fulvia Sport evolution. He descided to make it himself but only 30 years later. To many people think of it as a crime but lets face it. It is not the Mona Lisa were somebody descides to paint a clown nose on.
Zagato made 7 or 8 thousant Fulvia zagatos and many have died with less honour. To modify one is in my opinion no crime. See what the Yanks do with their hot-rod building. Not many people overthere cry when another nice 30s Ford is being cut-up to create a low-rider.

Funny story: I was with the owner/designer at the Padova car exhibition about three years ago and he managed to get Ercole Spada himself who was there as a special guest for the Alfa TZ club to take a look at his drawings and fictures of the finished car. Guess what, he didn't like it;-)

Zag plexiglass covers are available for S1 and S2 Sports from Omicron.

I'm not saying cutting up a classic car is a crime (I'm just thinking it), but in this instance the architect's keen eye has obviously let him down. Yes there are nice sideways and 3/4 view pictures of the car, but none under the angle which most people will see it from (if it works correctly): straight from the back. Sorry to say the white panel is way too big - a massive lump of flat panel totally off the mark with the rest of the car. I presume architects should know better, being able to imagine the looks of a construction before it is realised, else what is their added value? I won't call this guy to draw up my new extension!

The same guy is now offering the flavia zagato on the dutch marktplaats.nl. Someone should save that car before it looses his tail.
