airbox

I was trying to get k&n to suggest a replacement filter setup, but they have nothing suitable. Has anyone tried anything else. I am in the process of welding a short piece of 2inch tubing to a spare airbox, and will put a cone filter on the end of it. This should allow me to remove the paper filter inside. Any suggestions?
I have been getting a slight flat spot at 4k rpm, and am reluctant to rejet. apart from the little flat spot, it revs cleanly to the red. I won't put socks on the trumpets. way too nervous for that.

Have a look at that site http://www.fulviacoupe.de/Fulvia-Shop.html ... they offer a modified airbox to suit K&N filter plates. maybe they'll tell what exactly they are doing to the standard airboxes..

Very clever. I hadn't thought of that way. There is a baffle plate in the original airbox, which directs the air to the outer edge of the box. They have removed this, and installed the panel filter. I think i'll try that with the second airbox.

Whats your problem with socks on trumpets?

The noise is supreme and make my 1600 sound like an american V8!

I'm just too nervous. It was pretty hard to accumulate the parts required for the rebuild of the engine. The thoughts of stripping it again to pull out bits of foam don't appeal to me. I ran it with just the trumpets for a trip to the local shops, and the sound was awesome. Nearly worth the worry of all that dust. The socks seem too flimsy. I can imagine them being sucked into the head. On the plus side, the modified airbox has made a huge difference to high speed running. There used to be a slight misfire at 130kmph. It was like an occasional popping in the exhaust. That has disappeared now, and there is no hesitation from standing starts. Now i have to take it back off and paint it. I'll definitely try the k&n panel filter mod. I need another airbox. Time to trawl e-bay. Do any of the socks have a mesh support on the inside?

Another idea might be using these filters. http://www.mueto.de/Zubehor/Luftfilter/ ... ilter.html they are originally intended for the use on motorcycles, but they'll also fit on your trumpets. that's what i've done on my fulvia. you have the wonderful sound of the open trumpets plus you don't need to worry about anything getting sucked into your engine. I also made a kind of "heat deflector" from a piece of alloy in order to prevent the hot air from the radiator from getting into the carbs. if you want, i can email you some pictures...

what car? engine size? what air box. I have modifide my air box in my fulvia coupe 1.2 & 1.3 original box. I also purchase k & N E-1500 it fits just 2 inc over size but I cut those off now perfet fit. if you need pictures of what I did let me know. adan

Hi. Any pictures of mods to airbox would be great. I intend trying a few different ones until I find what works best for me.

I would love to see the pics. I am busy restoring a '69 1.3s Rallye and also have a series 2 which could do with "better breathing"
