Dear Lancisti

Everyone seems to have an opinion on this. I thougth I would ask you as well.
To lead or not to lead, and to octane boost or not, that is the question.
Car: Flavia 820.030. Engine: 820.000
The instruction book says: Premium fuel (92 Oct. min)
Share your thougths, or even better, your expirience with me.
And yes, it is the "some shade of white" Coupe. VERY close to finnish nowB)

Greetings from DK
Henrik

Last fifty thousand kilometers with my flavia 815300, driving on octane 95 unleaded gave no problems at all. Engine runs fine.

Well Hein

After 2 month and 3000 km on unleaded 95. I tend to agree with you:)

my gamma carb-models loves super; fulvia too - I don't tank super plus, it may give a bit more, but it costs a lot more, so I never tried it. :)

Good to know that you don't put a lot of money into your cars Johnny.
Especially now that one of them is looking for a new home 8-)

I have just completed a 5500km run to Queensland for the Wintersun Rally up there in my Flavia 2000 coupe.
Used 95 octane most of the time and no problems. With 9:1 compression you should err on the side of a higher octane fuel
I read somewhere that the cars had hardened valve seats as standard which makes them suited to lead-free fuel.
I have also heard that it is beneficial to add some 200:1 Puch 2T motor cycle oil to the petrol to improve upper cylinder and valve stem lubrication but have not been able to substantiate this.

Am running 4 older Lancia on 95 for the last yrs.

Fulvia now with 13500km in my time...farts a bit on full choke, but is quiet as soon motor gets a bit warm.

I am always surprised that all of these older Lanc, only 1 w/ Cat-Conv, start at the 1st turn of key, alloys :D

In DE Standard-Super is 95 Octane.
Super+ is 98 Octane.
Shel, Arall & a few other Brands also offer Performance Super, which is, I believe 100 (or do they claim more than 100?) .

I've tanked both Sup+ & Performance Sup gasoline in my most-driver Gamma; which is now a daily driver, in spite of snow & ice & yes, I am sure 'some salt', in order to determine if there was going to be any appreciable / noticable difference in everyday driving. I can't report anything at all ... everything seemed to be the same as before no matter which fuel I tanked.

Of course, I don't hot-rod down the Autobahn nor track-test in my Gamma; in fact on most short trips - I arrive at the destination before the oil reaches a temp. that would allow spirited driving.
Because ADAC (German Auto Club) Members get a discount at Shell, I have tanked mostly Shell in my (3) old Lancia; also because there is a convenient Station 1km from the office.

I have read that all DE Tankstellen will start selling a new Super 95 w/ a higher % of bio-fuel on 1 Jan; 11 which is not recommended for 'older cars', so this family will not be tanking Bio Suüer; although it may cost several cents lower per Liter.
Standard Super, which has had a % of bio for some years. A small % of bio-fuel seems to not caused anyone any problems
