Promising news about Lancia

Fiat auto has launched their plan for the next years: 20 new models in the next four years. A new delta, a new luxury car (is this a new thesis or what?) and a SUV???!!!!!
The though of a Lancia SUV might not be very appealing to everyone, but I actually think it is a good idea if Lancia is to be Fiat's luxury brand. Any thoughts on the news?

Indeed very promising news on
www.italiaspeed.com.
On another news web site I read the suggestion that Fiat might consider selling Alfa Romeo since it has been linked with Maserati. This leaves more room for Lancia as Fiats premium brand. At now, Lancia and Alfa are more or less competitors in some countries.
An interesting design study can be found at:

No way is Alfa being sold now, not after the money and resources that have been poured into the 159 and Brera. If anything Lancia is the more expendable, though at least this presentation is an affirmation of faith.
My guess is that the 'speciality model' is either the Fulvia or a new Integrale based on the new Delta. (This is of course assuming any of this actually happens, Fiat is still broke and powerpoint slides are rather easier to conjure up than actual new models.) What I find interesting is the mention of the SUV. I despise them as a breed but there is no way that this car will be developed from scratch if it's to be launched in 2006. One point above all is noteworthy in this. There is no mention of any projected model along the lines of the Alfa Kamal in that presentation. It is known that the Kamal has substantially (if not very nearly) completed its development schedule. I find it difficult to believe that the car has been scrapped completely after that much money and time has been spent on it. IF the Lancia SUV happens (and to my mind it's a very big if), I think it's probably likely that the car is fundamentally already developed. It would have to be for a 2006 launch.
Ironic if it does actually eventuate. The Kamal idea was originally spawned from a Giugiaro proposal for a Delta II replacement, effectively a soft-roader type vehicle...

From a Dutch news paper web site I understand that the Lancia SUV will be based on the new Fiat SUV called Sedici. A luxury version of the Sedici.

so its gonna be a small SUV, it'll be interesting to see what the outcome is! Hopefully now, once and for all the CEO's presentation will put an end to all the speculation about Lancia's future.

The Fiat Sedici will be based on the Suzuki SX4 SUV. Let's hope that Lancia can do better than badge engineering a Suzuki.

I´m afraid that the SUV will indeed be a Lancia version of the Fiat Sedici. Although in itself the Sedici looks like quite a nice small SUV. There are some similarities with the announcement of the Musa B-MPV, which also came only 1 year before it´s market release. And compared to the (bad) sales of the Fiat Idea the Musa is doing quite well and more important Fiat is making money with it.
I guess they want to play this card again.
So in my opinion it will not be the Kamal in Lancia guise. (unfortunately)
The good news is however that they are talking about future Lancia models. Let´s hope the first new ´genuine´ Lancia, the Delta III, will be a hit.
Ciao, René
