Bridgestone B 381 145R14 Tires
Bridgestone B 381 145R14 Tires
Does anyone have these mounted on S1 or S2? Earlier this year, and farther back, there was some discussion of these as being suitable for street use. Has anyone found them in the US? I'm looking for an alternative to the XAS' Once again cost rears its' ugly head. Thanks!
Re: Bridgestone B 381 145R14 Tires
The size 145R14 is the correct size for S1 coupe and Zagato. I use that Bridgestone tire on my S1 coupe and so do several of my customers. It is an excellent tire for the S1 coupe / Zagato. There is no Michelin tire, neither X nor XAS, in this size.
The S2 coupe needs a 165R14 tire. This one is available as XAS. This size is also available from a.o. Uniroyal and Toyo.

Bob-
If you find them in the US please let us all know where.
Again, the Vredestein 165/14's are good alternatives,
although still not the original size we all would like to have!

I think the Vredestein one is no longer in production. if you find some stock, it is wise to buy at least 5, preferably 6.

The Vredenstein 165R14 is still listed on Coker and Universal websites.
No 145R14s though, if that's what you were thinking...

Re: Bridgestone B 381 145R14 Tires
I'd hoped to use the B 381s in 145R14 in lieu of the larger, available XASs. I haven't been able to find them anywhere here in the US. I wonder if there is enough demand for the correct sized tires to petition Bridgestone to export some to the USA?
Re: Bridgestone B 381 145R14 Tires
It's hard to imagine that you could whip up enough demand for the US distributor to start importing 145-14s--it would be a very limited group of classics that use that size.
But you might try contacting the main US office to see if they're willing to arrange a special order. Alternatively, if you know where they're available overseas, you should be able to search online for a dealer who's willing to ship them here. bob traver wrote:

This is a subject that unfortunately, will not go away.
It would if somebody would just offer this size tire!.
Put me down for 10 tires Bob if we need to pool an order!
Does anyone know what other car(s) uses this size tire as original equipment?
This tire was not made JUST for Fulvia Coupes!!!

A series of internet searches might find other classic car forums that are discussing this issue. If through that search (and through poling various classic clubs whose cars used these) you can find enough people who would give you firm committments/deposits, you could approach one of the manufacturers or distributors. But someone would have to commit the money for a firm order and then serve as a 'mini dealer' to receive a large shipment of tires, and then ship the 4 or 5 or 10 to each of the individuals who wanted them. It's not impossible, but it's a large undertaking that will require some individual (or *possibly* some Lancia club subgroup) to undertake.
In any case, if a matter of convincing a manufacturer who already makes these to bring an order into the US, that's one thing. But if you've got to have a manufacturer make a special run of these, it's likely to get costly per unit unless you're ordering a lot of tires.
As I've mentioned before on other threads, I contacted Michelin about reissuing XAS in the 175-13s that came standard on my Fanalone (they have already reissued 155-13, 165-13 and 185-13). I basically asked if it would be possible to special order a quantity of 175-13, and they essentially suggested that I go away and not bother them.
I'm sure you're right that other cars used this size tire, but I'm less sure that this means there's enough latent demand. Again, it may not be impossible, but it'll require some homework and a great deal of leg work. Good luck.

Re: Bridgestone B 381 145R14 Tires
Like Ed I contacted Michelin about the 145R14X. They say they threw away the moulds.
However, the Bridgestone is excellent. I have just prepared Tina (greasing, oil check, rasing the front 2 cm) for a trip to France. Will leave tomorrow and back on monday. The Bridgestones have hardly suffered from the 25.000 km I have put on them over the last few months.
They are current tires on some current european cars such as the Audi A2 and normally available from the tire dealer on the corner of the street although he will probably have to order them. Do not forget to also order the tubes.
