Low Oil Pressure reading

Back to an older thread/problem ..............
I am happy to report that replacing the oil pressure sending unit in my Zagato has cured
the low pressure reading problem.
Guage now reads normal when running and warmed up.
Hope to do the same to the Coupe and with the same results.

please could you remind what you have done - ie what instrument cluster do you have and what sender?

Do you still get a low reading (close to 0) at tickover when hot and c 70% when 4000rpm and hot?

The 1969 Series 1 Zagato 1.3S I have,came from Italy.
It has Italian guages (obviously) and I replaced the sender unit at the oil filter fitting.
I should say my father did, because the car iresides at his garage currently
The part came from Mikr Kristick
It used to read as you describe, now it reads with "normal" pressure - ie increases with rpm.
and is strong(middle) even hot.

My second Fulvia was a 1970 1.3S. The engine had done at least 115,000 miles and it was depressing to see the oil pressure gauge not quite reach the middle of the scale when the engine was warmed up (it read maximum when cold) and read zero when idling.

I tried two different senders; the gauge read just the same.

Finally I fitted a proper oil pressure gauge. The best "overhaul" ever. With the proper gauge I had correct pressure - when hot.

I have never willingly used an electric gauge since, certainly not a Fulvia one. I simply do not believe them. For example, my first Fulvia, an S2, had a pretty good engine (once I had replaced the stripped Helicoils under the camshaft caps), but it annoyed me that the gauge always read 100 psi (nearly 7 bar) when hot. This is nonsense, since Lancia stated that the pressure at 90° and 4500 rpm should be between 56 and 71 lbs/sq in. My S3 coupé was exactly the same. I know that neither of these engines had had the oil sprayer spout blocked off as is often the case.

I repair and recallibrate the units. I always have a shortage of 6 bar units. I am particularly interested in those
I looked up "dibs" on Wikipedia. They linked me on to "riding shot gun" which I am sure is something different. We work something out.

They should be callibrated, both the sender and the gauge. In fact just today I repaired a faulty oil pressure gauge in an S2 coupe. The sender indicated too low. The gauge indicated way too high
