Demel - GONE

thank goodness. this guys biggest ideas was to kill Lancia and get Alfa Romeo
out of "166" market. That's how you run a business, run and hide.

Good riddens Demel...

Hi Ryan,

What would YOU do ?

Sitting on debts of 8000 millions of Euro (not Lire) and "earning" with any new Thesis sold new debts of inbetween Euro 5000 to 10000 and having absolutely no money for a new Delta or Lybra (or any other model) ???

Some daydreamers spoke about the new Flavia to come, but on a platform fading aout and only 50000 units ? This could be done by a very healthy company as a publicity gag - name me one - but under NO circumstances by Fiat, let's face it .

I just wonder, if the next newsline will be: "FIAT Auto bankrupt !"

Kind regards

Hermann

Anything is better than putting one's head in the sand and giving up.
Good riddens to Demel, once again.

Well lets hope Fiat get back on track and don't go back to their bad old days. The current crop of new vehicles coming out need to be not just good but exceptional. They need to sell in all markets and not just a few markets that Fiat want to target. If they don't engineer their vehicles for all markets as they have had a habit in the past of not doing then their days are numbered. The problem with Fiat has been wrong market placement of their vehicles. In alot of cases they believed their vehicles were in a different market than public thought. Examples are throughout their range. Lancia Thesis and Alfa Romeo 166 are classic examples of this.

Again I mention the French as they were able to bring back their car industry from the brink of desctruction , lets hope Fiat can also. However too many times I have heard this is the car that will save Alfa Romeo / Lancia and Fiat and too many times it hasn't.

Hi Nick,

Not at all, but I just wonder about all the daydreamers in the forum!

I have spent my whole life in the heavy industry and I can imagine, what it means sitting on debts of several thousand millions of €.

May be some artists can dream about a new car like the Fulvia would have been, but the only goal of running any business is to make profit, nothing else. Just imagine, how many profitable cars Fiat will have to sell to get back on the track...

Long time ago Lancia built good quality cars, but later in Fiat's hands, most were just rubbish or flops, to say it clear. Demel's idea was to improve quality (like Audi did), but he failed in firing all these useless guis in the management, well dressed and smart talking, but nothing more...

Kind regards

Blimey mate, the only bit I understood was the German...
... and I'm English !

But I agree that Demel was not good for Fiat and certainly not good for Lancia- the whole Italian automotive culture is built and has thrived on something he lacks- romantic passion.
He is 'just' a German businessman and that's not enough for the Italians.
