Nice article in Hemmings 'Sports and Exotic Car'

Unread post by Peter Cripps »

In the September issue. 6 pages of description and driving impressions. Subject car is a red 1.6HF Fanalone.

A few phrases sounded familiar from my 1.3S:

"...steering borders on the telepathic ..."
"...thin pillars mean outstanding visibility in all directions..."
"...acceleration sounds more dramatic than your pace would indicate ... "

Viva-Lancia is mentioned as a restoration resource.

The same magazine issue also has a brief history of Lancia, as well as several other interesting articles. I think I'll have to subscribe ...

I have just got my copy from the states. Some very good photos of what is obviously a very well restored car (I understand that the owner has just won several awards for this car)- but the journalism ??!!

Too many technical errors:
"steel upper wishbones replacing tubular...."
the old warhorse "first 600 (an increase on the first 500 anyway!) were V1016....."
"Girling brakes...."
I especially liked " we did not engage in any handbrake shenanigans on gravel to see how the integral brake drums would bring the rear of the car round ..." when you can clearly see the S1 handbrake mechanism in the (very good) pictures.
"Vacuum servo brakes..."
"limited slip diff..." (an option I know)
"Dellorto carbs...."
"Bosch electric fuel pump..."

Also were the gearboxes ZF as claimed ?? I had occasion to work at the ZF factory in Friedrichshafen several times over the last ten years (they supply transmissions to our trains) and I asked them about this and they had no records of working on the Fulvia - does anyone know different?

So a good article to see what a Fanalone looks like, and good comments on the desirability and handling - but not a technical reference.
