feedback on Spax shocks

Unread post by william »

some time ago I started a threath on Fulvia Shockabsorbers. I choose for SPAX in the end. I promissed to report when I had them fitted and here it is:
The back ones are not noticeably different than the Konis. The advantage is in the ease of adjustment for the adjustment is done via an external screw on the lower part of the shockbody.
The fronts however transformed my car! The konis, adjusted to their tightest setting, made the car judder over short bumps like ripples or seams in the tarmac. It felt like there was play in the wishbones. The SPAXes completely eliminate that tremble. Some days before I was driving the lovely berlina 2C I once owned and found that car agian so marvelous over bad surfaces I almost regretted selling it. This 2C is fitted with De Carbons. They are gas dampers like the Spax. It seems this is cushioning the bumps the Konis don't. On a much harder sprung HF this also works. The car is as tight as it was with the Konis but much more comfortable. It feels a more modern car. The only thing with gasdampers is is that they make the car sit slightly higher due to the gaspressure making the dampers trying to extend. But this is less than 1cm.
For the first time since I have the HF on the road I believe that all the effort I put in is finally paying off...
