Aftermarket electronic ignition

My HF 1600 has a Newtronic electronic ignition system fitted to the Marelli S139A distributor. I have a spare distributor and would like to fit it out with an electronic system, to have as a back up for the day when the "black box" stops working.

I see that Newtronic are not selling to the public at the minute, but for some reason they don't list the S139A on their distributor listing.

Are there any other systems or options i.e other makers, do other Marelli distributor kits fit a S139A, or is there an alternative distributor to fit?

Cheers

I have just fitted a lumenition - you can find them on the web. They list this distributor - a bit of a fag to fit as you have to completly strip the distributor - not something you can do by the road side easily. You need any supplier to understand the correct opto detector as marelli dist ributor is in the minority. Anyway I am looking for a spare distributor now!!! (just in case). System works though.

Another idea can be to fit a black box which uses the standard breakerpoints in your distributor. In this situation the points no longer switch current but act only as signallers. Hence they don't wear as much. Timing should stay more constant. Another advantage is that there should be a better spark and thus more power or economy but that is debateable. Biggest advantage against breaker replacement systems is that in the event the black box fails you can get the original installation in action to get home by the change of a terminal at the coil. 20second job.
posible manufacturers: MSD, mallory. price about 150 to 400 euro for basic to light competition systems.
