tyre pressures
tyre pressures
I am interested in thoughts on optimum tyre pressures both for sprightly road use and track days for my series 1 coupe. Currently it is fitted with Michelin 175/70 R14 84H tyres and I have been experimenting with 34 to 40lbs. Thanks all!
Re: tyre pressures
This depends partly on the temperature of the track as well as many other factors, for example the quality and condition of your dampers and suspension bushes.
When I used tyres of this size on a Fulvia, I found that for road use, 27lbs front and 25lbs rear gave good results in average conditions (the recommendations in the handbook are rubbish). On the track, I would on a dry day, add about 6lbs all round, although of course if the track had mostly right hand bends, then I would run slightly lower pressures on the right-hand side of the car to enable more equal tyre temperatures.
Obviously in the wet I would run probably with my road pressures.

Re: tyre pressures
Thanks Paul, those pressures are quite a bit less than I had been trying, so I will have to try them!
