I have now reached the point in my restoration where I need to tackle the wheel-bearing / hub area of the car (S2 1.3S). I have made a set of makeshift tools and removed the ‘special’ nuts front and rear.

However for a more practical long term engineering solution I would like to fit a more ‘standard’ style of hub nuts for use with traditional sockets. I remember reading such a conversion somewhere but cannot put my finger on it. Has anybody completed a similar modification or come across a supplier of said parts.

Yes.

At Evolution Engineering, we produce a hexagonal hub nut to suit the front hubs of the S2 Fulvia; we use Integrale nuts as a basis and re-machine them. You can then use a conventional 30mm socket to remove them.

the S1 is a larger diameter thread unfortunately. It is 28mm rather than 26mm. First I don't have a 28mm tap and second I would have to search to see if there is a suitable hub nut that could be modified although I doubt it..

As a matter of interest we just fitted one of ourmodified nuts to a S2; it worked perfectly and we torqued it to 32MKg just as the book says. Next time all that will be required is a 30mm socket.
