Unread post by Tassos Kollias »

Hi everybody

Here in Greece that i am living we have a 3 kinds of fuel. The unleaded fuel , th "super" fueld with lead replacements but with only 96 octans ,and a super unleaded with 98 octans. But a month before BP starting a 100 octans fuel witch I already tested with my other car (An Alfa 75) with very very very good results.By the way I want to use 100 octans unleaded fuel to my Fulvia but i will need a lead replacement.
Do anyone Knows where i can get one?

Hi Tassos

Good to know that because I just finish my Fulvia restoration here in Italy I'm leaving. This summer I'll be back in Greece and is good to know that this lead replacement doesn't exist there, so I'll do my supplies from here. The cost is 8 euro for a bottle and it's bottle is enough for 200 lit. If you are intresting I will buy for you. All the petrol companies here have a product for lead replacement. Send me an e-mail.

I run all my Fulvia's on 95 octane unleaded. They run very well.

Some years ago I used Millers VSP plus, a manganese based octane booster and valve lubricant. I burned valves on both my 1967 Fulvia coupe rallye 1.3 cars. As a result I decided to keep the money for the lead replacement additive in my pocket and save it towards a conversion of the head to unleaded if and when it would fail. So far no signs of valve seat recession and the cars are running superbly.
For some months I had to run one of my rallye 1.3 cars on 98 octane unleaded because it suddenly pinked on 95. Two weeks ago I traced the cause to holes in the top of the stems of #1 and #4 exhaust valves. The valves would not open completely and apparently left enough hot gasses to cause pinking. After replacing the exhaust valves the car ran fine again on 95 unleaded, smoother than ever.

Here in Holland most many Fulvisti now simply use the 95 unleaded.
