Fulvia-Bremsen Serie 1

Unread post by Manuel »

Ich habe mir eine Fulvia Serie 1, Bj. 67 zugelegt. Jetzt hörte ich daß die Bremsanlage von Dunlop hergestellt wurde und Ersatzteile schwierig zu bekommen seien. Könnte man mich aufklären ????
Mit Dank im Vorraus-Manuel

Fulvia-Bremsen Serie 1

Sorry for replying in English. I read German perfecly. Unfortunately I don't write it.
Congratulations with you car. I find the year 1967 the best year of the Fulvia. Professor Fessia was still technical director at Lancia. He was an absolute quality freak. Unfortunately he died in 1967.

The Dunlop brake system is excellent and when in new condition with the right pads gives you better stopping power than the S2/3 Girling brakes.

Please, also read this entry in the english forum

I am at the moment restoring the brakes of a 67 coupe of a friend of mine. Mama mia. They are bad! But when I am finished he will be able to stop the car on a 1 euro coin.

I strongly recommend to have the springs reconditioned too. If the car has original springs, they are tired after 35 years. The distance between the rubber bump stopper and the lower wishbones will be too small. When braking hard at high speed the wishbones will hit the bump stoppers. Since this is hardly ever at the same moment for left and right the car may go out of control. Also, put new shock absorbers.
Eeltink in Heemskerk, just west of Amsterdam, reconditions the springs very very profesionally at about 100 euro for front and rear springs together. Ask for "Ome Leen".

N.B. There are many brake pads around of @!#$ quality. Make sure you get the right quality. Mintex is excellent. Mintex in the UK belongs to the same company as Textar in Germany. Since the Dunlop system is english, I still prefer english made pads, as well as english made brake fluid and brake grease.

Because there is no brake servo, the pedal force is higher. You will get used to that and in fact come to like it. One does not brake with the right foot, but with the righ buttock. It is necessary to put the seat in the exactly right position.

Also check the upper suspension ball joints. They often have 1cm of play. They won't fall out as the weight of the car rests on them, but they will act funny when braking hard at high speed. To test them you have to put an axle stand under the spring to take the weight of the car off the joints.

Enjoy and let me know if I can do anything for you!

Hallo Manuel,
