has anyone had the timing chain changed? I'm supposed to have the 80k service for my Lybra 2.0 and they are quoting a price of euro1800+(in Switzerland CHF2700-3000) including changing the timing chain; apparently one has to remove the engine in order to accomplish the task - whoever designed this in this day and age must be shot!
on the German forum I've read that it can be changed without removing the engine but by only shifting it to one side - this costs less time and therfore is cheaper...; any ideas anyone?
thanks, Philip

I think I paid about 200 euros in Norway for this operation.

Re: Lybra 2.0 Timing-chain change
the issue with the 2.0 is that they apparently have to remove the engine...this is not the case with the 2.4/1.9 diesels and 1.8; in the german language forum I have been told that one can somehow shift the engine to change the timing-change without having to remove the engine; this is what I've been trying to reconfirm
thanks anyway,

Re: Lybra 2.0 Timing-chain change
Yes, I asked from Fiat dealer how big job is to change timing-belt for 2.0 Lybra. The manufacturers said that it takes 11hrs. So, the job is expensive.
Re: Lybra 2.0 Timing-chain change
at swiss garage rates of CHF180 per hour that accounts for the CHF2000 of what the complete service would cost...thanks both
in the mean time have found an independednt Lancia specialist who can do it for half the price...unfortunately he's in Zurich and I'm in Geneva...

Re: Lybra 2.0 Timing-chain change
Hello Philip,
I have a Lybra 2.0 5V comfortronic. Last year (07-07-2004) I changed the timing chain at the dealer and it costed about 900 euro's. For your information this was in Holland.
Greetings,
Hans

Re: Lybra 2.0 Timing-chain change
thanks Hans,
I've had it done here in Geneva and it cost me a few hundred euro more...the Lancia 'tariff' was nearer 1950 euro but the Lamborghini garage here did for about 1400 euro (the chief mechanic was previoulsy head of an Alfa/Fiat/Lancia garage)...I'm driving up to Holland next week again; looking forward to it
I hope you're enjoying your Lybra as much as I have been!
