Hi guys,
The lambda sensor has been replaced a few weeks ago and, ever since, the fuel consumption has increased and the engine sounds somehow noisier - unless it's just my imagination. A friend suggested I should perform an ECM (Engine Control Module) by disconnecting the negative (-) cable of the battery for a few seconds, then perform the Idle learn procedure (5 seconds engine on, 5 seconds off, let engine warm up to 90 degrees, then 5 seconds engine and A/C on, 5 seconds engine and A/C off, then last two steps again once, then engine off). He said it worked miracles on his car - however, his car is a totally different brand.
Now, the question is: would such a procedure have any effect on a Kappa (2.0 20v, 114 kW, since 1997)? Is there a similar procedure for a Kappa (maybe 10 seconds instead of 5 seconds or something else)? Should I perform the operations, after all?
ECM reset & Idle Learn
Re: ECM reset & Idle Learn
I think that such procedure will not helping you.
The new lambda sensor is Bosch?

Re: ECM reset & Idle Learn
Adrian, Sounds like 3 possibilities (that is when it was OK with the previous sensor) :
1) The sensor is not mounted gastight. 2) The cable is not making contact (check at the plug is it whole and not oxidized?) 3) Wrong model sensor used (check the part number).
When the previous sensor was also giving a fault, it may be that not the sensor but the electronics box has the fault......

Adrian, the correct sensor part number for the 2.0 and 2.4 20V with Bosch Motronic version M2.10 is: B.258.562.081
Re: ECM reset & Idle Learn
I can't help you with the problem but let tell you one thing:
You should never disconnect either negative or positive cables from the battery while the engine is running.
You can find this alert on your car's manual.
Lancia K is a car with loads of electronics and when you disconnect the battery, voltage will increase along with other electric variations that can create problems with this sensitive electronic devices.

Re: ECM reset & Idle Learn
Hi everybody.
Im wondering too, does kappa have ECM reset?
"Alfa Romeo" boys does it like "battery off 30 min, warm up engine, then turn it off".
Or something close like this.
What is correct order to do it for kappa 2.4 V.I.S. engine?
