Hello,

I got a problem with my Lancia Kappa 2.0, model 2000; the computer display reads "Engine System Control Failure". It started with alternator-generator failure. Still have not replaced the alternator. Could this message appear because of alternator problem or it is something else. What could be a cause and what might be a solution.
You opinion will be highly appreciated.

You should not worry about this message and you should.
The fact is that this is a general statement and you have to put the car in the computer of an official lancia dealer in order to make diagnosis. This can be an overboost valve (that was my case) or something else but do not worry.If you want to make a self diagnosis try to watch when this message comes on.i.e. when accelarate or breaking or press hard the accelarator.
Bottom line, take it to the dealer for a computer diagnosis. It will take you 20 minutes and will cost you 20 euros, and youll find everything about your engine.

20 minutes? must be slow mechanics, (paid by the minute?). was beside the mechanic at the weekend when he plugged my k in, total time 5 minutes to read and clear everything.
also agree though, worth going to the dealer just to find out, put my mind at rest.

This question has been asked many times - by me as much as anyone else!! - a Fiat main dealer should be able to order one for you.
