Before I bought the car (the first 80.000km) the car had driven with Selenia Racing (10W-60). I continued until 100.000km with this oil, but I was very unsatisfied with the fact that this oil had to be replaced for every 10.000km when the cars normal service interval is 20.000km.
I therefore switched to Selenia 20K (10W-40). Apart from longer oil-intervals intervals it seems to me that the engines "normal" oil-consumtion was also considerably less. Or perhaps that was because we had 2-3 leaking oilpipes replaced in that period...

I know that Fiat produces Selenia and that they without much doubt would always recommend this oil. In the back of my owners manual it even says that I should always use Selenia 20K.
What I am tired of is the price of this oil. I have to pay a little more than 100Dkr (Danish crowns) (or about 10-11 UK-pounds) per liter. Because it would most likely not be affordable to import the Selenia oil myself from anywhere for just my car, I am seriously considering to start using other oilbrands (etc. Shell). A local shop often buys excessive amounts of Shell oil - meaning that I could get a similar Shell oil at 1/3 of the price of Selenia.
I could also choose to buy a slighty more expensive oil like Shell Ultra (5W-40) at half the the price of Selenia 20K. They also got an Ultra Racing oil (10W-60) but I haven't checked yet if the intervals for that is 10.000 like Selenia Racing.
Could anyone help me out with some impartial experiences?
By writing impartial I am looking for good advice from someone who's paycheck doesn't come from Selenia, Shell or other oilmanufactures

By the way... if "Duarte" reads this....
The "brake light failure" message has recently vanished again? Therefore I have not bought that new box you recommended me to buy (at least not yet). Perhaps the error message will appear again for the 3rd time when Winther returns... so I have just pushed whatever repair it might be to the future... I really don't understand but it has got to be something with the weather?
