The speedometer on my G reg y10 gtie has developed an interesting fault. Shortly after starting to move at just above 20mph it suddenly goes all the way over to 140 mph -the top of the scale. The odometer then racks up the mileage as if the car is going at that speed-a little disconcerting. Then after a while the speedo goes back to normal. I have checked the gearbox connection and even with it unplugged this still happens.
Has anyone experienced this and have any suggestions. Thanks

don't have that problem but my speedo takes a holiay and packs up for a few days,then suddenly for no apparent reason it returns to normal !! like yourself I've had the cluster out but can't find anything wrong.
Somewhere around that side of the dash & obviously well hidden, (I haven't found it as yet) is a major earthing point for a lot of earths from that part of the car, which I suspect may well have something to do with the problems,. Looked in my manuals but can't see the location of it indicated anywhere.
Anyone know exactly where it is?
