S2 axle boot replacement

Unread post by Nostromo »

Hello,
I have a '72 Fulvia. I happened to notice a small tear in the left outer (wheel) CV joint boot when doing the annual maintenance day before yesterday. It is the old/original style design. I have ordered a new set for both sides (modern accordion style). I had a few questions I was hoping someone with prior experience with this repair could answer. I have looked at the service manual and searched the forum.
1) Once the inboard flange bolts and the axle nut at the hub are removed, can the axle be removed with a little maneuvering without any disassembly of the suspension or steering at the hub?
2) Any reliable torque figures for the inboard flange bolts and the big axle nut? I have ordered the three pronged socket for the latter.

Thanks.

Yes. You can remove the drive shaft.

Torque values are in the Technical Databook. See Fulvia_S2_1 at https://viva-lancia.com/specials/cd/fulvia-cd.php

For the axle nut it is 30 mkg.

Inboard CVJ to flange M8 bolts: 3 mkg when yellow or 5 mkg when black
