S1 tyre size

Unread post by julian67 »

Greetings

What is the safest, most comfortable maximum S1 Fulvia Zagato tyre size that would fit on an original steel wheel? (4.5)

Currently, my old tyres are 165x65x14

Would 175x70x14 be ok. Or, 175x65x14?

Many thanks

Hi Julian

I moved your posting to the Fulvia forum. Can you please post in the Fulvia forum in the future?

The correct size is 145R14. No / numbers. You need a tyre with old fashion construction which you can run at 1.7 bar (24 psi).

Cars with leaf springs have a two stage spring action. The first stage is the air spring of the tyre. The second stage is the leaf spring. In addition you need the low pressure for better road holding. If the pressure is lower, then a larger contact patch is needed to carry the weight. So better grip.

There are two. The Camac 145R14 and the Pirelli Cinturato 145R14. Lancia and Pirelli never was a good marriage on Fulva's and earlier Lancia's. There was only one good tyre and that was Michelin. Unfortunately the Michelin 145R14 X is not being reproduced. Fortunately the 155R14 X for the berlina's is reproduced. If it was my car I would put the Michelin 155R14 X when nobody is looking and go to confession in the nearest catholic church.

The Camac is acceptable. It simply does not give the feeling of the Michelin X tyre.
