Valve adjustment, valve cover gasket is sticking

I am still trying to check the valve adjustment on my Fulvia 1.3.
I tried last week but the head cover was completely stuck. I guess the old rubber gasket is adhering strongly to the engine suface.
Any good advice before I try more "brutal" ways. I am thinking of running the engine for a while and then give it another try? I know I must wait untill it is cooled down before I do the adjustment.
I found the torque in the repair manual - app. 12Nm
