My 63 Flavia has a 2000 IE engine and transmission. On cold start it starts instantly, idles smoothly and runs flawlessly. After it
gets warm, when restarted there is a definite banging noise for about 3 - 4 seconds and then it runs quietly again. Seems to come
from the front somewhere. Any ideas? Gary in California

I forget - do you have the Bosch or Kugelfischer injection system?

On my KF system, there is an issue with the cold start enrichment device misbehaving when the engine is warm. So have installed a small switch to disable it (manually) when the engine is warm - start up is just fine then. And then switch back to normal for cold starts. I doubt this would be so simple in the Bosch system, but perhaps this helps...
