clutch slave cilinder diagram/rebuild help

Unread post by smokeme »

Today my clutch finally gave up and stuck to the floor, last time this happened i replaced the clutch slave cilinder and it worked. This time i want to rebuild it, can anyone provide some help has to what needs to be done or even a diagram of the parts inside. Thanks in advance.

right hand drive or left and drive? - they are different

if RHD the clutch master cylinder is best reached by removing the right hand wheel and inner guard.
suggest that you get a seal kit for this. If your slave cylinder has gone the master cylinder is close to being gone as well.
The clutch master cylinder shares the same fluid reservoir as the brake (long hose across car)
the brake pedal will go to the floor (and stay there) if the travel is too long (it has an over-centre type of travel)

Sorry i forgot to mention mine is a left hand drive car. So i take it that i'll need to rebuild both master and slave cylinders then?

Ohh and mine is a series 2 Thema turbo 16v, i though it had two reservoirs? i'm sure the brakes work really good but the clutch leaked all of it's fluid to the carpet....

You can still get the slave cylinder for about £25 in the UK. Is it worth the hassle of rebuilding and then having the risk of doing it wrong?

Good luck anyway.

Not sure about the left hand drive cars. but if there is a separate clutch master cylinder, it is probably a bit easier to get to than on the rhd cars.
If the master cylinder leaked it's fluid onto the carpet, then I suspect that it too needs repair/replacement

Yes, i've been looking at it yesterday and it's actually the master cylinder that's faulty this time around. Slave cylinder works fine and has no leaks.

So i guess it's cheaper to replace and rebuild this one for when it's needed :p
