water leak in to the cabin
water leak in to the cabin
Ok i recently parked the car on a high forward angle(around 40 degree forward tilt), so the front of the car is lower then the rear. Now water started to appear in the passanger footwell (LHD), it drops from the A-pillar but the sunroof is dry around the rubber so that was excluded as a possible source, the car has no rust and so no holes on the roof. The previous owner has never had that happen and when the car is straight it does not leak at all anywhere.
Does anyone have any ideias as to where it's leaking from?
This is a pic of where the water drips from http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/5381 ... dit3pn.jpg
Thanks for any help

Re: water leak in to the cabin
It sounds as if the front sunroof drain channels are blocked at their bases where there is a constrictor. Remove the plastic cover that goes on top of the fan for the cabin heater and you will see the exit points of the sunroof drain channel tubes. Cut 5cms of the bottom of each and some green sludge will probably drain out.
Re: water leak in to the cabin
yes its typical. i had this problem in sunroof unit and without it
you must review the seal of windscreen

Re: water leak in to the cabin
Can someone tell me where that cover is? is it the engine bay or in the car?
Is this forum almost dead or are Themas really reliable? : )

Re: water leak in to the cabin
Interesting discussion.
I do not have a leak, but I do hear a strange gurgling noise when I pull off after a heavy nights rain,
Possibly the drainage channels on my thema could do with a cleanout also.
Could you describe in greater detail their location?
Fintan

Some searching on the forum led me to this old topic http://www.viva-lancia.com/lancia_fora/ ... =887&t=887
Still doesn't explain the exact location though

Re: water leak in to the cabin
Smokeme : I'm talking about the plastic cover that is at the very back of the engine bay, it sits between the windscreen and the bulkhead behind the engine. The cover should lift out easily to give you access to the interior fan motor and to give you better space to see the drain tube exits.
It is not necessary to remove it, but it might make the job a bit easier.
Fintan : The gurgling noise is probably caused by the fact that the "constrictors" have been removed already to let the channels clear themselves out.
The constrictors are in place to try to counter the air pressure differential caused by the "bow wave" at the base of the windscreen. The build up of air pressure when the car is moving causes air bubbles to travel up the drain tubes hence the gurgling, I guess you get the same noise when pulling away because the water is travelling backwards in the sun roof channels and is effectively sucking air back up the tubes by a syphon effect.
Might be worth shoving a wire up the tubes to make sure they're are clear anyway.

Hi Angle,
Thanks for your extensive knowledge.
It will prabably be spring by the time I get to have a thorough investigation, but it will be nice to know what I am looking for.
Fintan.

Re: water leak in to the cabin
Already fixed mine, it was actually disconnected at the top and was a pain to get back on with only the corner of the liner removed!! My valves had already been removed.
