Hi
Can anyone tell me where the fuel lines on the Series II Thema runs after the firewall? I have a fuel leak somewhere either where the fuel lines go into the car or in the area of the fresh air into the car. I only get the smell of fuel as I start the car and thereafter it disappears.
Any help or diagrams will be appreciated.
Thema 16V Turbo - fuel leak in car
Re: Thema 16V Turbo - fuel leak in car
There are two flexible pipes; on the fuel pump pressure and return lines under the back seat (which you will have to remove to inspect them). These have been known to become porus and you get a fuel whiff until you get air flowing through. The pump is held down by a large plastic nut. I would start your inspection there.

Thanks, any assistance of what I need to check for. There is no visible fuel lead above the plastic nut. Could it be below the nut and if so how do I go about removing the lot.
Re: Thema 16V Turbo - fuel leak in car
Sorry about delay (computer problems here). There is no need to remove the fuel pump as any leak you smell will be outside the fuel tank. Unless the fuel pump seal, under the pump housing lip, has become porus and the fuel slopping around penetrates it in driving. I have not heard of this happening before. But if you do you should use a special tool but you can make one easily to fit the plastic nut. Be careful removing and especially refitting the pump as it slides into the tank off centre.
On the top of the fuel pump housing there should be two unions - a white one for the pressure line supply and a black one for the return line. Check bothe secure.
The white line goes to the fuel filter located either in the spare wheel housing or in the engine bay, depending on Thema model. The gasket washers on the filter are very prone to weeping and should be replaced. Sometimes the pipes get kinked when taking the filter off the boot mounted filter. Check the lines carefully while the engine is running and ventilation system off - otherwise the fuel pump will not be pressurised (2.5 bar) and you will not smell fuel.
From there the lines go to the engine bay and you will just have to follow them carefully.
Are you certain that there is no fuel leak in the engine bay? It is by far the most likely place, remember the return line which comes from the pressure regulator on the fuel manifold
