Hello,
I have replaced hanbrake cable because of uneven braking of rear wheels. When I apply the handbrake, pulling the lever upwards by 5 cliks, only right rear wheel is locked. So, is there any other adjuster of the handbrake cable or the rear left caliper? Is the caliper damaged or dirty?

Re: Handbrake
Dian,
The rear calipers on Thema's are prone to failure/seizure of the handbrake mechanism and you will probably need to get a reconditioned caliper to replace the non functioning one.
You might get some success with cleaning and lubricating around the handbrake lever on the caliper, but this is usually only succesful for a few months.

Re: Handbrake
It may indeed be as Mike has said but a likely reason is also the rear brake ballancing mechanism which is located under the centre back "axle". You will see the brake lines going into it. This has an input lever which biases the brake output to each rear back wheel depending on loading and lean of the car as far as I remember. There are two pistons in the valve assembly which are adjusted by a swash plate. These can sieze up and result in the handbrake not working on one side. But they can be cleaned out and new seals put in (these come as a part number from Fiat) at little cost but time. Before you spend money on another brake unit try freeing the valve assembly out. It is awkward to get at and difficult to get all the air out of when bleeding afterwards.

Re: Handbrake
Thanks to Mike and Paddy,
The automatic handbrake cable stroke adjustment device has failed.
I had to replace the complete caliper.

Re: Handbrake
just gone through the whole handbrake issue on the right hand wheel of my Thema.
Had a spare caliper, but that had a stiff handbrake mechanism - had the caliper rebuilt but when on the car the handbrake still didn't work.
Seems there is a knack in getting things working - assuming that the handbrake mechanism is turning freely.
When putting the caliper on the car, leave the handbrake cable off. Bleed the system and then pump the brakes to wind the self-adjusters out. It seems that the self-adjusters only work properly with the handbrake lever right back at their 'home' position.
Then reattach the handbrake cable and adjust it - don't wind it up too tight (a common fault)
Assuming the caliper is not faulty all should work as it should.

Re: Handbrake
It also helps to screw the piston out to take up an gap between the piston and the pads.
