A Lancia mechanic told me that a way to get a more crisp responsive engine on my Thema turbo was to replace the intercooler (witch was kind of under dimensioned on the Thema) with a unit made for the Delta integrale. There should not much gain I flat out HP's but a lot in the normal life driving experience.

Does anyone have knowledge on the subject? My Thema engine feels much more responsive on a dry -5C winter day compared to a hot summer afternoon, so the physics of cooling air to reduce it's size really seem to work :)

And actually while I am at it : Does anyone know the if/what the difference is from the 2L Thema turbo and Delta turbo engines?? (185 HP 8V & 205 HP 16V)

best differences betwen delta / thema was the ecu and all the electronic ignition and inyection system. delta uses IAW and thema s2 bosch le2jetronic (iy) and marelli (ig) and the turbo unit and pressures, delta has bigger one (trim 60/48 with max 1.0 bar) than thema (the little one t3 with 42/36 and just 0.6 - 1.0 overboost). thema s3 (205 hp) was equipped with a very similar IAW made by Bosch (motronic) and has catalytic conversor. this model was the more boosted with 1.1 overboost mode

change the intercooler is a great idea because stock has plastic sides and delta uses all alluminium made, better cooling and performance with big boost levels, so sure you will obtain more response and hp in all rev range.........so actually i have 234 hp and 400 nm with all stock parts and just with a preistoric valve installed on the turbo (bleed or passive relief valve) so if you want more you will need adjust air / fuel ratio and be very carefull :-)

thema ph2=198 bhp standard.delta integralle 220bhp. yuo need to change-inlet manifod,throttle housing, loom ,deltas fuel and ign timing ecu's.turbo,intercooler.you CANT chip or tune thema's single ecu. when i finished mine 1991 ph2 16v £8000 later!!! 100mm lower,386 bhp,porche and evo eater.0-70=4.5secs.did about 32mpg,NO lag ultra reliable.ps best way to lower car,cut BOTTOM COIL OFF ALL SPRINGS so .ends are in original position.dont have car now,if you want any help to get a fast beast ,contact..italia cars,wrexham.he did all my work.NOBODY knows more.Not cheap,but power never is.hope this helps you,wish i still had mine....god luck, ken
