Electric Seats.

Unread post by Richard »

Hello everyone.

I have a Series 1 8.32 with alcantara interior. I am in the process of purchasing a leather interior for the car and the one I am buying has the electric seats.
My question is this - will my car have the loom ready for me to plug the seats into, or am I going to have to make this? Is there any way of finding this out?

regards,

Richard

Richard,

last year I purchased a phase 3 16V, which had electric seats fitted from a different car. There was no wiring loom present so I made my own up for each seat.

If a factory loom has been fitted you should find all the relays and fuses etc on the right hand side of the boot. (An 8.32 may be different !). However I doubt if this will be in place if electric seats where not factory fitted.

I made my loom up using the wiring diagram in the workshop manual purchased for a phase 3 from Omicron. From memory (I will need to check) you will need two fuses and relays for each seat. One for the heated seat and one for the motors. Power can be picked up from the main fuse box.

Hope this helps

Julian.

Richard,

I removed both front seats \"electric\" from an 8v Thema turbo LX & installed them in a 16v Thema turbo. On the earlier version I removed the wiring loom & relays which went from under the seats to the front right hand side of the centre console all in one harness. There was no harness in the 16v version. Two fused relays were at that point and if my memory is correct all that is required was a negative and positive. I took the positive from the fuse box.

Prior to installing them I connected power via battery / croc clips and ran the seats in all directions, removed all grime then lubricated everything. If you remmove that Alacantra throw it in the washing machine it comes out great. Also I raised the drivers seat and ran both seats to the rear. This helped when bolting the front runners in.

I did have all cables installed before fitting the new seats, easier that way. Peel the carpet back and remove the centre console. The relays were originally hidden behind thick black plastic at the above location. Not easy if the fuse blows. I made a cutout for access to the fuses.

Phew !

If I can help please post a note.

Regards Chris.

Hi Chris -

Thanks for your words of encouragement! I have contacted the chap I'm buying the interior from, and he's going to remove the harness. A little more complicated than your situation, as the seats are heated front and powered rear, so I also need to plumb in the wiring for that, and add the switchgear.
Just as well the Poltrona leather is worth it (I hope)
I suppose if I were truly lazy I could wire up a battery, get the seats set how I'd like them and just leave it at that. It would seem to miss the point a bit and thankfully I'm not that lazy.

regards,

Richard
