1993 2.0 16v i.e running rough

Hi, I bought my Thema 2 months ago. Very nice car but recently the flexy pipe gave up on the exhaust, and the car ran very rough, e.g no accelaration under 3000 revs, after the exhaust was fixed it ran fine but now its started running rough again. Tick over is lumpy and I've lost power, the exhaust is fine though. Any ideas? Are there any sensors which could have malfunctioned to create this problem? Cheers for any suggestions.

i have a 2.0 16v also and i a little bit disagreement with his performance, i feel the engine founds difficulties to get up with the rpm.

in this way the exhaust system banged a long time ago and gets dent at lower part, and reading your comments i think maybe it is the problem....what is flexy pipe? when you say rough is also by the engine sound?...i wait for your ideas.

The flexy is a part of the exhaust that allows movement in the exhaust system to prevent the catalytic convertor getting destroyed. I feel my problem is to do with the exhaust. It whistles and knocks occasionally. There must be a leak in there somewhere. The engine doesn't really sound rough, it's just runs lumpy.
