Re: V.I.S and U9
Hi Andre
VIS stands for Variable inlet System whereby there are long inlet tract for normal driving and economy and short tracts that when you put your foot down hard activates 4 flaps in the long tracts that close and the mixture takes a much shorter route into the engine. thats a very simple way of describing it as if you can get a look at a series 3 workshop manual will show!
I had a 1994 series 3 LS Auto fitted with this system and while I would suspect on a manual transmission it worked a treat, on an auto it used to frighten the life out of me when it kicked in!
Sorry but can't help with the U9

Hi Kassus
No it's not overboost it just allows the petrol/air mixture into the engine quicker.
Don't think it would not be practical to afterfit as it is quite a complicated system and there are a lot of other parts beside the manifold not the least being the ECU and I don't think you would gain enough to make it worth while, one downside is the bearings in the on the shaft for the flaps wear and Lancia say you have to change the complete manifold, very expensive although if you can source the bearings it is possible to repair.
Don't know if you have access to a series 3 manual but if you do, have a look as I say it is quite a complicated system which also came in with solid state ignition.
