Engine Trouble

My car: 87 Thema Turbo.
My problem: My car halts when I run it hard and it gets really hot.
First som history
My car running well when I bought it and when I change the belt it turned out that the timing was 3 steps wrong. I also got my injectors cleaned and all adjusted. The car might have runned with wrong timing for 20.000 km or more!!
It was a new car but I got a problem the first day after running it for aprox 1 hour. Then the engine started to halt when I pushed the pedal. I got it home and the next days it runned OK. I experienced the problem a couple times after this, but it looks like it disappeared and I have been driving it for a long period with no problems at all.
Then, when I got down to Germany this weekend and had been running for a couple of hours the engine started to let me down again. My speed had been from 140-170 km/h and I had pushed it pretty well in periods accelerating and braking up. When the problem occurred I had to just relax and not push the pedal more than just a tiny bit. Then it kangarooed for a 5 sec. and went fine again. I drew like this for 30 min and started to speed up again and it worked fine until I "pushed" the engine again. The temp outside was 5 C and my engine had 85. Oil around 85-90 I think.
The halt is like a totally loss of power for a second or two and I get that kengeru jump in a way.
My local lancia repair shop told me that it might be a pressure valve that's on my inlet-manifold. It's supposed to stop the engine when the pressure on the air gets to high.
Is there any out there that have had the same problem and can help me with an solution????
