Speedometer problems Series II
Speedometer problems Series II
I have an 91 Series II with speedometer problems. Its jumping up and down from 0 - 240 km/h and make some noise. Do anybody have some hints?
Re: Speedometer problems Series II
Leif,
I've had this problem as well two years ago. (didn't think I had THAT much problems
. Could it be that your speedometer is jumping up and down and your mileage (or km) counter is not adding also?
In my problem the counter (I don't know the right english word) got stuck, causing the speedo needle to jump up and down whenever a digit on the km counter should change - but didn't. The - only - solution is to take the speedometer console out of the dash, open it, get the speedcounter out, lubricate it very sparsely (with silicon spray), set the speedcounter at the desired mileage
, and reverse the process.
Mine works perfect ever since.

Re: Speedometer problems Series II
here's another posible cause. I had a similar problem on my series 2 turbo, where the speedo would jump around and then settle at 120 mph, the mile counter still turned, but at the appropriate speed. I found it was the voltage regulator for the speedo, it's the small white box located on the back of the speedo. I hope it's not that, as it's a damn nightmare to find another "good" one! I had to repair mine, it was one of the diodes and one of the transistors. Good luck!
Re: Speedometer problems Series II
I experienced problems with my speedometer for months. It jumped from 0 to whatever the speed, spending a couple of days sometimes not working at all (stuck at zero, with the odometer not running).
At the same time the powersteering was malfunctioning. It went overassisted at full speed (scary !) when the speedo fell to zero, and other times didn't worked at all, keeping the steering heavy at all speeds (not funny at parking lots).
I always though the two problems to be related but now that the local Lancia dealership finally got rid of the speedo problem (like two weeks ago) the power steering is still working like with a mind of its own, so they are obviously two different glitches.
I will check with them what was the part they changed to let you know.

Hi Mark,
My speedometer have not worked for a long time. Today I unmount that white box (voltage regulator) which you mean in your message and found that one of diodes is cracked and transistor has convexity becouse of overheating.
Do you remember the nominal value of the diod (transistors is readable)?
Sincerely,
Rustam
