I'm new to this forum & being midway through a restoration this website is proving invaluable.
Some help please. I acquired a Lancia Fulvia Series 1 Ralle S over 20 years ago, as a project, but I have only been in a position to restore it over the last 3 years. The car is now fully resprayed and in the process of an engine rebuild. When the car was collected I was informed that the engine and gearbox were not correct for the model of car. The engine No is 818.130.17709 & the gearbox No is 818.130.9145 (I have since acquired the correct engine & gearbox for the car).
I was wondering if there is a method of determining which model of car they belong to, be it Saloon, Coupe or Sport? The engine may be a case of measuring the valves perhaps but I'm clueless as to the gearbox. It may well be that they are compatible for all types of model? Appreciate your thoughts.

818.130 is the origine number of the Coupe with the 1216 CC engine, so also the gearbox is for the 1216 CC version.

If the speedo has 180 kmpu as max it is also 1216 if it has 200 it is 1298. (talking about LHD normal versions, not HF)

I had a feeling it was the 1216 version, so the engine I have will be rebuilt & hopefully find its way back to someone's 1216cc Coupe in the future. I will check the manuals I have to determine if the gearbox has different ratios for the Coupe & Sedan. Again, hopefully this will be suitable in someone else's car.

The 818.130 gearbox is for the 1.2 Coupé only. It has different 1st gear ratio and final drive than the 1.2 berlina GT gearbox.

It is an interesting gearbox. The final drive ratio is the same as for the S2 coupé 1300.

If you ever want to use the car for rallies, it is often a good idea to raise the car a bit. Replacing the 145R14 tires with 165R14 is an approved way of doing it as Lancia did it for the S2. If you put an S2 odometer sender in the 818.130 gearbox and put that on the car the overall ratio is correct and the speed / distance counter is correct.

And the good news is that 165R14 is available from Michelin as the 165R14 XAS, best tire ever.
