Lancia Dedra 95 - idle

Hello,
I have a Lancia Dedra 2.0ie '95 - 90.000km. Since a few weeks I have a problem getting the engine started. After ignition the engine would immediately turn off – abruptly. Using throttle to keep the engine at 1000revs for a few minutes, the engine remains on. Could it be the outside temperature / humidity because if I keep the car inside, the engine starts without any problems.
Anybody experiencing / experienced the same problem? Thanks a lot.
Laurent

hello Laurent,
I had not checked the postings lately, I had similar problems with a '95 2.0 16v 150,000km in Germany, the engine stalled 3 times in 6 months, but would start after checking the idle speed control valve and other connectors. After 2 local work shops said the problem was the coil, and then they replaced the crankshaft position sensor the car would still not run, the next garage (Alfa) replaced the fuel tank vent check valve, they also could not get the engine to run good.
After using contact cleaner on all of the engine control connections, the engine would run a little better, but still stall and run rough. I then tried a used coil and ing. modual from the same year with little change.
I had replaced the sparkplugs when I had purchased the car. After not having use of the car for 4 months I decided to start replacing the cheapest parts first, *** distributor cap and rotor *** (which had some pitting on the cap but no carbon tracks). I have been driving the car for several months now and runs very good, I had previoulsy had a slight loss of power in mid throttle (tach. inop. so can't say what engine speed), the engine runs strong thru whole range now. (while the tach worked for a while it has since stopped, which maybe the connector contact between the coil and ing. module). So after spending about 300 euro at the garages, 20 euro for the cap and rotor MAY have been the main problem.
Althought the elec. connectors have several seals, some of the pins had corrosion, so they may need multiple cleaning.
Good Luck
