Dedra Turbo Battery Light

Hello all,

as usual my dash seems to be playing up again or is it??

I noticed the other day that with the ignition on the oil, abs, handbrake etc light come on but the battery doesn't. Suspecting it was simply a bulb I swapped it, including the holder, with the oil one as I new it worked. Powering up again still no battery light but oil on so I know both bulbs were OK.

The battery charges ok, although the needle only goes upto 9-10 volts, when the engine is rev-ed to about 3 thousand or so the needle then jumps to about 12 and stays in that area.

What I'm not sure about then is whether I have a problem with the dash itself, the altenator or in fact by some funny quirk of Italian logic the battery light should come on at all? Except for if the altenator fails and the battery voltage falls to low.

Anyone any ideas?

Many Thanks,

Gary

Just in case anyone else ever has this problem I'll let you know how I fixed it!! It turned out the be the single thin wire from the altenator. This is the wire for the warning light. Earthing it brought on the light on the dash. A new spade connector later and I now have a working battery light again.

Additionally the above fix also cured my "two stage" battery voltage needle. That problem was that the voltage stayed low, about 9 volts, until I revved the engine to about 3000rpm where it would jump to about 12volts. The re-made altenator connection now sees the needle go staight to 12 volts on start-up.

I now have a fully functioning(electrically) Dedra for the first time in 3years!!
