Dedra head gasket

Unread post by Gary Simmonds »

I am about to embark on replacing the head gasket on my 1990 2.0ie Dedra. As I don't have a workshop manual can any one inform me of the torque settings and the order for tightening the head bolts and also any other helpful tips or special tools that might be required.

Thanks in advance Gary

Hi Gary.

Looking into engine compartment from front of vehicle head bolts nearest to radiator from left of engine to right are 7-3-1-4-9
bolts nearest bulkhead from left of engine to right are 8-6-2-5-10.

Lubricate the bolts & washers with engine oil and leave them to drain for at least 20 minutes;
tightening torque & sequence as follows

1st stage tighten the bolts to a torque of 2 daNm;
2nd stage tighten thebolts to a torque of 4 daNm; using a torque wrench;

3rd stage tighten all the bolts through 90 degrees using a spanner in the order given;

4th stage. further tighten all the bolts through 90 degrees in the order given using a spanner ;
Good luck

Thanks for your help Brian, I managed to replace the head gasket a the weekend and the car actually started 1st time ( a minor miracle) however it now idle's at about 3000rpm. I'm not sure if I have connected some of the vacumm pipes incorrectly as if I disconnect the small pipe that goes into the plenum chamber the idle drops to near normal although lumpy, any clues. Also should the idle be adjusted from the large screw on the top of the chamber just before the corrugated pipe that leads to the air filter?

Thanks

Gary
