Pollen Filters

I'm wondering if it's possible to fit a pollen filter to a 1993 Dedra 2.0ie RHD, if they are available and if they are effective in reducing traffic fumes.

I do not know the answer to your question but what problems are you having? there is a fundamental design fault with dedras (and I believe tempra also) that they suck fumes into the car if you have a window or sunroof open .My personal opinion is that the fumes are sucked up the rear drain tubes for the sunroof due to pressure differences i.e. the open window or roof reduces the relative pressure compared with under the car allowing the air that is trapped under the car in the bumper area (right next to the exhaust!) to be sucked into the cabin. Fiat modified cars by 1- sealing all joints in the rear bodywork 2- fitting an exhaust with a down turned rear pipe (hence later cars have no cut out in the bumper) 3- deleting the extractor vent on the exhaust side (the cure for this on earlier cars is to wrap the vent in a bin liner!)...the vent is near the rear bumper incidentally.I found some relief to my problems (on a car like yours that will already have the official mods ) by extending the exhaust pipe out so it protrudes beyond the bumper and extending the near side drain tube with a piece of copper pipe (attach it to the bumper) so that the end is in the free air passing the vehicle so at about the same pressure or less than the cabin hence it will suck air out not in (hopefully).I am presuming you understand the principles involved but in case not essentially the faster air moves the lower the pressure it is at

Alan,
thanks for the prompt and comprehensive reply. I find in traffic or dusty enviornments I tend to sneeze a lot, with the windows closed and the fan on. The air sometimes seems quite dusty, too. I feel a pollen filter would reduce the amount of dust/fumes in the cabin and looking at the air inlet, it seems to be designed so one could fit over it.
Ray.

I have looked on the parts cd-rom there is only a filter listed for left hand drive cars as far as I can see .filters were only fitted to cars with aircon as far as i know which was never available here also rhd system will differ most likely.I have tried to look at the Alfa 155 information on the cd it would appear to have the same filter for both r and l hd but it is not possible to tell if this will fit a Dedra and as it is such a pain to get to difficult to compare installations unless someone is willing to let you take their car apart!! I have a Nuovo Delta HPE HF (LHD) with aircon and would observe that there still apears to be a lot of dust in the car obviously the filter will only catch a certain level of debris smaller particles will still get through.I would also add that the OE filters are pretty expensive!

Alan,
thanks again, it seems I'm going to have to take exact measurement of the air inlet hole and try to compare it with an actual filter, the next time I'm on the continent.
