Hello friends!
I've got a Coupe -99 20VT with an annoying problem. When driving for a while in fifth gear I get big problems getting the gear out to neutral for downshifting, and then it's hard to find any gear. In normal driving in town I have no issues with changing gear it's only after driving at higher speed in fifth gear. Does anybody have some similar experience or have any ideas what to do?

I suffered from this problem with my 1998 20vt coupe too. Again it was after long journeys: difficult to come out of 5th gear and eventually not being able to select reverse when parking - but all fine when it cooled down.

I was told that it could be the selector wires from the gear stick expanding - sugestion was to replace these! Then I spoke to a friend of mine who is also a Porsche specialist (and now a Kappa Coupe lover and specialist!) who proposed a gearbox oil change to an ELF product. Rusults: not had the problem since it was done about 2 years ago - and yes I still drive the Kappa as it should be driven!

ELF is now part of the Total group: Total SYN FE 75W-90 (I am double checking and will confirm)

Hi Gus!

Thank you for your input to my problem, I think then that I'm on the right track. I have done the second oil change now and this time to an oil from Redline used for gearboxes in racecars, it seems it works better, but I haven't been on a real long fast motorway trip yet. If there's still problems I'll try the oil you're using.
