Thesis 2.0t - Problems with ignition and Oil in the air intake system

Hello.

I have two major problems with my Thesis 2.0t (134,000km) which started recently:

1) Problems with the first ignition (engine is chocking, cylinders misfire);

2) Oil in the air intake system (motor überlauf).

1) The fist ignition (when the engine is cold only) persists for several month. I already changed: spark plugs, rail coils; oxygen sensors, MAP +MAF sensors, camshaft sensors (starter works well). The engine works normally, after the first ignition, but after the first ignition the engine works very uneven and rough. However, when I shot it off, and re-ignite, the engine works fine. Diagnostic reports error code P0300. I used injection cleaning solution, but nothing changed.

2) The second problem, which is maybe the cause of the first problem is the oil in the air intake system (überlauf). I know that the oil in the air intake system is usual with older turbo engines. When the engine is working there is no white or blue smoke or lost of power. The oil could be found in the part of air intake system close engine, not to turbocharger. MAF sensor is clear. No oil there.

Does anyone had similar problems?

Best,

Aleksandar

Hi Aleksandar,

how much Oil (for 1000km) does the Engine consume?
If there is to much Oil in the Air-inletsystem (high pressure part after the Turbocharger) it can also cause engine misfire.

Hello Thomas,

Not really sure, since the Fiat mechanics put so much excess oil that I could not tell for sure how much the engine consumes on 1,000km. I drained excess oil 2 days ago, but the problem persists. Some people think that I should get look into fuel pump. Another suggestion is to professionaly clean fuel injectors.

Hello Mikele,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried to locate the relay for fuel pump controle, but I could not find it. Do you know where is it locted? What is the ePER number of that part for Thesis 2.0t?

Thanks.

Aleksandar

Well, your Thesis has 134000km down.
Your Oilproblem can be caused by a worn out Turbocharger. On my Kappa engine, it was the same. Oil-lost true a leaky gasket within the Turbocharger. Solution: renew the Turbocharger or by a hole new one. I took a renewed one and has a much smaller oil consumtion now.

Does the Problem first appears after you went to the Mechanics, or existed it already befor?

If existing since you where at the Mechanics, they might have filled to much oil in your engine (normale, but not so good) and this can cause more oil in the air intake-system and some of your problems.

The problem appeared after the oil change in Fiat service. My mechanic (not working for Fiat) at first suspected the same, however after he examined hoses he said that most of the oil is on the air intake close to engine, not to turbo charger. The engine has no power lost. Plenty of power, especially after the turbocharger engages at 2,300 rpm. No white or blue smoke. Soon after the oil change I had a problem with the turbo valve. I changed it. The problem with the ignition remains, when the engine is cold. The first start is rough, engine work is uneven, the engine shakes. However, if I switch it off, and than re-ignite, the problem goes away. In general engine works very smooth, quiet and has a lot of power. Working temperature is ok.
