Help - I have written my HF Turbo off...

Unread post by Steve »

Please help, I have written off my pride and joy a 1990 Delta HF Turbo ie...
I was blinded by the sun for a split second - enough time to plough into the back of a parked lorry. The impact caused the windscreen to break and the lorry back sliced into the passenger side A - post - almost chopping it in 2. I am absolutely gutted.
I write on the forum for 2 reasons:

First I would like some ideas what my car was realistically worth. I had it insured for £2000. It was a 1990 H reg, with 128,000 miles, full service history - all rust had been professionally sorted - rear wheel arches rebuilt, back of roof properly (£300) fixed. The car is White. I have some info from the older car Glasses guide that values are between £1600 and £1800 for average condition - this car was way better than average. Any suggested values would help my cause with the insurance company.

Secondly I have withdrawl symptoms from not having my Delta, If there is anyone out there in the UK who has a very good condition Delta Hf Turbo - or possibly GTiE in White or Bordeaux Red that they are trying to sell or are thinking of selling in the near future please let me know - I guarantee that I would give your car a good home.

People keep telling me that it was only a car - as I am sure you will all agree with me, a delta is never just a car...

Steve,
I bought my turbo in March last year, it has 28,000 miles, full service history, (one short and one full every year), one previous owner. There is rust on the rear arches (one side poking thro'), but otherwise still immaculate. It even still has the plastic covering on the door trim in the back.
I paid £2700 for it then, the garage also sold a Gtie in the same condition and mileage the week before for £2200.

Sorry I can't be more up to date with that.

Unfortunately, the turbo blew yesterday (still impressed with over 18 months of trouble free motoring tho!), so much expense and difficulty in sourcing ahead!!.
Difficult question, but do you still have the car? as I am having trouble getting bits at the moment.

Hope this is of some help,
John
ps you have the perfect excuse now to get an Integrale!!!

I am very sorry to hear about your HF disaster - it happens to the best of us.

As long as you are okay - thats the main thing!

We (LMC North East) have loads of Delta bits including a very clean and original shell in white - ideal if you want to re-body your stricken HF.

Alternatively there are any number of Deltas available from 1.3s upto Integrally EVOs. Indeed we are (hopefully) about to aquire an abandoned HF Turbo, also in white.

As to the value of your car, unless you had an agreed value policy, you will be lucky to see £2000 back. What you need to make sure is that you can keep (or buy back) the car. Indeed it might be a good idea not to claim for the damage as you could reshell the thing for a few hundred quid.

I think you ought to be able to get (or build) a very good Delta HF or GT for under £1300 so don't be dismayed if the insurance company make a low offer.

Email me to discuss things further - alfa_delta@hotmail.com

Kind Regards,

I read you message and it is pretty terrible. I can understand you. I have an advice that I can give you. Have you tried looking for a Delta in the french auto magazine OPTION? I not, try it. There are at the end of the magazine a lot of announcements made from different countries. Check them out because I am still saving money for a HF Delta, Good luck.
