I have recently purchased an 88 Delta i.e. and am looking for help from fellow enthusiasts to complete my restoration project over the winter. I am based in Edinburgh so would like to know of any like minded Lancia nuts in or around Scotland/Northern England.

My first problem is the rear brakes. The n/s brake calliper appears to have ceased on and the o/s seems to have ceased open and handbrake is completely inoperative. Is this common? I am going to look at the brakes today but will see how far I get. Has anyone else knowledge of the braking systems in Deltas?

With not being able to find a Haynes manual or similar for this great little car can anyone recommend a rookies guide to restoration?

After now driving the Delta I can't believe I left it so long to buy my first one. I'm in love!!

Sorry Jason, can't help with the brakes, but try GGB Lancia for spares on 0181 8882354 - I used them in April to buy pads - cheap as well!

Yesthe rear brake calipers are generally likely to seize up. This can be avoided by regular maintenance (lift the rubber cover and pack with copper based grease). I have been able to get rear calipers from my local Motor Factors (Eskside Motor Factors, Dalkeith 0131 663 0165). The handbrake cables suffer in the same way, the exposed end bits need regular (once a year just before winter) greasing. Replacing the cable is not much fun (at the handbrake end it "slips" in under the carpet), but best to strip out the rear carpets and seats.

I have had intimate knowledge with the rear brakes, before replacing the caliper Lancia do an excellent seal kit for the brakes. It is worth stripping down the caliper, removing the piston and checking the bore for scoreing. If it has just 'siezed up' then it is possible to gently clean up the bore remove all the crud fit the new seal kit which comes with every possible seal plus handbrake boot, handbrake lever cable tie and circlip for approx. £8 and generally recondition them.

If you want to know how to strip them down then let me know as there is a few do's and don't plus a pin that needs careful removal
