Buying an 8v or a 16v

What is the general opinion on which Integrali to buy when the end use of the car is to use it daily. ie which would be the best to live with!

Definitely the 8V!!
Better fuel consumption and more reliable mainly because the engine peaks at lower revs than an 16V causing less wear on the engine.
More fun to drive in the city, because of the way the turboboost comes in at lower revs.
The downside is that it will loose acceleration in the top-end (from 5000 revs and up) which is noticeable on the motorway if you are competing with a Golf or whatever other piece of non-Itilian cr*p.
Also important: maintenance is (somewhat) cheaper for the 8V compared to the 16V.
And the most important thing to look for, is to buy a car which has a full maintenance history be it an 8V or an 16V!!
Do not buy a car which hasn't got that, because you will almost certainly spend lots of money trying to fix the previous owners negligence!!

cheers,

Dex. ( Who owns a Martini 5 and an 8V)

Hi Graham!

Although I've driven several integrales I only own a 8V that I use daily in the city. My city is Barcelona famous for having traffic lights at each corner. First I thought that I would stay with the Delta GTie from mondays to fridays and use the grale to leave the city in the weekend. The reality is that the Grale is highly versatile beeing the car I drive every day.

It's reliable (in case good maintenance has been done and you buy it in good state) and fuel consumption is like a normal 2l engine - if driven normaly :) something imposible if you like to be launched from traffic light to traffic light. There are no rivals in the city for the Grale (neither out of it:)

Chipping the 8V with a chip like the 230hp from evocars (that I use) doesn't change the drivability at all of the car, being nearly as smooth as before at low throttle and having much power on third gear and beyond, and better reving.

The bad side of the 8V vs the 16V is that it's older and you will encounter rust problems sooner, something that when is solved at time is not a problem. The engine will probably have more Km and the look is older unless you buy a car aesthetically converted to a 16V (or you convert it later). In my case I use 16V wheels and have the bonnet in the front for better engine bay ventilation.

16 valve any day. I had an 8v in England years ago, bucket of problems and couldn´t shake racy escorts easily. I live in Madrid now and have a 16v, ok I have modified it slightly – turbo ecu and valves, its probably putting out 280 or 290 hp and only footballers in Ferraris can catch me – eventually. My point is, there are lots of mods for the 16v lump and if its not just tyre shredding clutch dropping starts your interested in an 8v will never catch a 16v on a run. Oh yes - I use it for work, daily.

Hi

I'am thinking of buying a Evo 1 . It has only done 23000km but is missing the 3k and 9k stamps in the service booklet. It is from Italy. What would be your advice
