This are the original part´s from the car. Cleaned and after that zink chromated.
Looks like new ?!
Basic as on the attached pic´s to see.

I'm guessing you are using red oxide to treat the bare metal? How do you prep that surface for priming and painting?

hard work by hand with a steel brush and drill machine; have a look.
the boot flap was blasted with glass beads
