Four Watt its Worse:
I spoke to 'now retired' old Ital Auto Spezialisti (old Ital Cars, not old Specialisti; his chassis is the same 'Young Model Year' as Mine & I ain't old (yet) !!) ; Senor`Giancarlo - the gentleman who originally picked the 185 Michelin for my Z.
Due to a # of "issues" concerning this Z & his involvement therein...he remembers the details...even after 5+ years.
He said - if the car had been purchased with original skinny steel wheels, he would have ordered 165's; however ... since it had the fatter Delta Milano wheels, 185 was the only option & that 165 would be the wrong tire for this wheel. Is he correct ?
I can't imagine that I (my car) would benefit so greatly by going to 165 that I (or anyone else) would want to buy skinny steel wheels ! or ?

Ital Car - Ital Tires:)...now all you need is Bordolino/Chianti/Lambrusco et all & a little Ital Musica !!
are all your tire choices produced locally ?

User reviews of Fulvisti??? (answer no and probably if you had bought the tyres and they took you round corners you would vote for them....???? Not a bad tyre though....)

The standard fit for any Fulvia never was 185 (sorry Ed but didnt want to argue that when it was bought up earlier).
145 as Huib said was the std for S1 (coupe/sport) on 4.5 J steel wheels and 155 for the Berlina.
165 for S2 (coupe/sport/sport 1600) on 4.5J steel wheels, or 175 on 6J alloy.(1600 HF)
5.5J alloy (HF2000 chromodoras etc) also either 165 or 175 (even 2000HF was only 175).
I cannot find any reference to 185.
Interestingly my S1 owners manual indicates michelin x or pirelli Cinuratos!
My S2 manual indicate for 175/14 1600HF spec: Michelin XAS (or ZX as an option), Firestone Cavallino Sport 200 Radial(!), or Goodyear HR, - for 1600 sport on 4.5J Michelin XAS 165/14, - for 1.3 on 4.5J steel rims 165/14 Michelin ZX, Pirelli CF67 cinturatos, Firestone Cavallino Sport 200 Radial(!), or Goodyear G800 (remember those block treads).
Different tyre pressures were recommended for the different size tyres....

Huib - Ed Levin - Lancialulu all have EXTENSIVE experience with all things Fulvia.
You have their advice, take it. If you don't want to listen, why ask:S

Henrik I am very well aware of their experience which is the very reason that I asked them, having said that I have to work within the realms of what is available locally and out of what is available I have to make the best choice - not entirely easy - and what is priced semi reasonably in other parts of the world is extremely overpriced locally, is the excess really justifyable? Therefore the more discussion that is continued helps to narrow down all possibilities and ultimately will help me and others make the most overall practicle choice.

Produced locally... yes, not sure about the Pirelli's though...

Even though they're available through US suppliers, I bought my set of XAS from Vintage Tyre in the UK; they had no problem shipping them to the US, and I imagine they can ship anywhere.

Perhaps my arlier post wasn't clear enough, as I never said that 185 was the original fitment for any FUlvia.
What I said was my 1.6HF "being an S1, the original size is 175/80-13, which is unobtainable. Given the choice between 165/80-13 and 185/80-13, I opted for the 185, and the response is still pin-sharp."
So the 185/80-13 I run are most assuredly not the original size, but Michelin didn't reissue the 175 in 13". In the 13" they reissued the 155, 165, and 185, but not 175. When I sent the factory an e-mail inquiring about the 175-13, their reply began "Je suis desolé", and the only sentence in English was "No hope at all." So there was simply no option of running the original 175-13. And the only choice being a little smaller or a little larger, I opted for the latter.
Sorry if I didn't make that clear enough earlier.

Ed: , it was 100% clear.
Everyone: this has been an enjoyable exciting thread, an auto-engineering.seminar; a great enjoyment, my "hat is off" to all who have been so judicious in posting, commenting, arguing & counter-arguing. Thanx; although B)- now I don't know hoo to believe.......................but keep it up !
